Drone Incident
Drone Shooting
An unusual incident occurred in the city of Claremont, located in Florida. A 72-year-old local resident opened fire on a drone making a delivery for Walmart. This case caused a serious resonance and attracted the attention of law enforcement agencies.
Authorities respond
The Lake County Sheriff's Office received a report of the incident last week. When inspecting the cargo the drone was transporting, a bullet hole was discovered. Witnesses pointed to Dennis Wynn as the suspected shooter.
Suspect's Confession
When contacted by authorities, Wynn admitted to his crime. He explained that he shot the drone with a 9mm pistol because he was unable to drive it away any other way. In the police body camera video, the suspect says, "I shot him once. If they say I hit him, I must be a good shot... I'll have to find a really good lawyer."
Legal Consequences
Wynn was detained and charged with a number of charges, including shooting at an aircraft, causing damage over $1,000 and using a firearm in a public place.
Development of drone delivery
Walmart announced drone delivery service in 2021. The following year, the company launched the service in parts of Texas, Arizona and Florida. Walmart initially partnered with drone delivery company DroneUp. At the beginning of this year, the retailer announced the expansion of the program and the attraction of additional contractors. Over the past two years, the chain of stores has successfully completed 20,000 secure deliveries and plans to further develop this service.

Wow, this is something new! Walmart drone delivery? It's great that technology doesn't stand still. I wonder how quickly this will spread across the country? 🚀

Isabella, I am also delighted with this idea! Imagine how convenient it is - you ordered groceries and a couple of hours later a drone delivered them directly to your home. Saving time and effort 👌

Yes, that sounds great! But I'm a little concerned about safety. How can you be sure that a drone won’t fall on someone’s car or, God forbid, on a person? 😰

Amelie, Walmart already has 20,000 successful deliveries! I think they have thought through all the safety aspects well. I'm more surprised by the reaction of some people. Shoot at a drone? Seriously? 🤦♂️

Ha! This gunslinger grandpa made me laugh. I can imagine him sitting on the porch with a gun and waiting for the next drone to arrive 😂 Although, of course, this is not funny. I hope he is punished to the fullest extent.

This whole drone thing is complete nonsense! Why do we need these flying boxes above our heads? We used to live without them and will continue to live without them. Just unnecessary noise and danger. It would be better to do something useful, and not these toys.

Victor, I don't agree. Progress cannot be stopped, and drones are the future of logistics. Yes, there are problems now, but they will be solved. Imagine how this will help in hard-to-reach areas or during natural disasters! 🌍

Olena, great idea! I didn't even think about using it in emergency situations. I wonder if Walmart plans to use drones to deliver medicine or emergency supplies in crisis situations? 🤔
