A new level of efficiency: Nvidia uses an AI system to make chips super-fast
Nvidia uses AI to speed up the development of new chips
Rapid chip development with AI
Nvidia, known for its graphics processors, recently implemented artificial intelligence (AI) to increase the speed of development of its chips. The move will help the company meet growing demand for its products, Business Insider reported.
Effective use of ChipNeMo
Creating chips usually involves a significant number of specialists. The task of developing one chip requires the work of about a thousand specialists who must have deep knowledge in various areas of the process.
However, Nvidia has created the ChipNeMo AI system, which makes this process much easier. It is based on a powerful language model built on Meta's Llama 2 technology and trained on the company's own data. The ChipNeMo chatbot can answer questions related to chip design, including questions about GPU architecture and code generation for their design.
Since introducing ChipNeMo last October, Nvidia has seen the AI system become extremely useful for teaching young engineers the chip design process and generalizing knowledge from 100 different teams.
The pursuit of artificial intelligence
All of these efforts by Nvidia to increase the production of graphics processors take place against the background of a general pursuit among companies to develop artificial intelligence.
Meta, which last year released AI-based products such as the large language model Llama 2, plans to buy 350,000 GPUs from Nvidia. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the company's future in the field of artificial intelligence requires the development of a "large-scale computing infrastructure." Together with other suppliers, Meta will have 600,000 chips at its disposal.
Last July, Google introduced DeepMind, an artificial intelligence system that can speed up the process of developing their own chips. A few months later, software giant Synopsys unveiled its artificial intelligence tool designed to boost productivity among chip engineers.
