HMD Global abandons the Nokia brand for smartphones
The Finnish company HMD Global, which has produced Nokia phones for the past eight years, will no longer use the brand. It will instead update its products under its own brand.
What caused it?
The disappearance of Nokia-branded phones was no surprise. The company noted last year that it plans to release its own line of mobile devices. However, this does not mean that HMD will immediately abandon the use of the Nokia brand on its phones. They will focus on developing their own brand.
When HMD Global acquired Nokia, the agreement stipulated the use of the Nokia name on HMD phones for 10 years. This deal still runs for another 2 years. HMD's website states that they are a manufacturer of Nokia-branded phones.
MyNokia account on X (formerly known as Twitter) announces that communication channels related to Nokia mobile devices will cease 7 February The official site, which was previously located at nokia.com/phones, now redirects to the HMD site.
